Insomnia is a common complaint experienced by pregnant women in their third trimester due to physical and psychological changes, such as uterine enlargement, back pain, frequent urination, anxiety before labor, and hormonal changes. Untreated sleep disorders can impact the health of both the mother and the fetus, requiring safe and effective treatment. Acupressure is a non-pharmacological therapy that is relatively safe, easy to perform, and has no side effects for pregnant women. This therapy involves applying pressure to specific points on the body to help increase relaxation and improve sleep quality. This study aimed to determine the effect of acupressure therapy in reducing insomnia symptoms in pregnant women in their third trimester at PMB Jamilah Dawe Kudus. This study used a quantitative method with a quasi-experimental design through a pretest–posttest with a control group approach. The study sample was pregnant women in their third trimester who underwent ANC examinations at PMB Jamilah Dawe Kudus and met the inclusion criteria. A total of 52 respondents were divided into an intervention group of 26 respondents and a control group of 26 respondents. Insomnia levels were measured using the Insomnia Severity Index (ISI) instrument before and after acupressure therapy was given to the intervention group, while the control group was not given any intervention. The data obtained were analyzed using statistical tests appropriate to the data distribution. Research conducted on 52 pregnant women in their third trimester at PMB Jamilah Dawe Kudus showed that acupressure therapy at the HT7 (Shenmen) point was effective in reducing insomnia symptoms. This was evidenced by a decrease in the average Insomnia Severity Index (ISI) score in the intervention group from 22.88 to 2.69, greater than the control group which decreased from 20.35 to 6.62. The Wilcoxon test results showed a significant difference before and after the intervention (p<0.001), while the Mann–Whitney test showed a significant difference between the intervention and control groups (p=0.001). The decrease in insomnia levels occurred because stimulation at the HT7 point was able to provide a relaxing effect, balance the autonomic nervous system, increase blood circulation, and stimulate the release of endorphins so that the quality of sleep of pregnant women improved. The results of this study align with previous research that found acupressure to be a safe and effective non-pharmacological therapy for treating insomnia in pregnant women. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that acupressure therapy has a significant effect on reducing insomnia symptoms in third-trimester pregnant women and can be used as an alternative non-pharmacological intervention in antenatal care. Further research with a larger sample size and broader coverage is needed.
