PENGEMBANGAN LITERATUR UNTUK NARAPIDANA DI PERPUSTAKAAN LEMBAGA PEMASYARAKATAN KELAS IIA JAMBI

This study examines literature development for inmates at the Library of Class IIA Jambi Correctional Institution. The study was motivated by the importance of literature development in supporting inmate rehabilitation, education, and self-development, while the implementation of literature development in the library continues to face various limitations. The objectives of this study were to analyze literature development, identify the types of literature available, and examine the challenges and efforts related to literature development at the Library of Class IIA Jambi Correctional Institution. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, while data analysis consisted of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that literature development at the Library of Class IIA Jambi Correctional Institution has not yet been implemented systematically. The process of literature development still depends largely on grants, external assistance, and cooperation with external institutions. Based on the five indicators of collection development, namely collection selection, collection acquisition, collection organization, collection evaluation, and collection accessibility, their implementation has not fully aligned with the concept of library collection development. This study also identified a distinctive characteristic in the form of dependence on external collection sources in the literature development process. The available literature includes religious literature, educational and knowledge literature, recreational literature, which support spiritual development, knowledge enhancement, skills development, and the recreational and motivational needs of inmates. The challenges identified include limited funding, limited variety and quantity of collections, as well as limitations in library management systems and facilities. To address these challenges, the library has established cooperation with various institutions, accepted collection grants, and utilized mobile library services and interlibrary loan services.
