Abstract

Supply chain disruptions have exposed the limits of treating efficiency and redundancy as mutually exclusive operating choices. This study examines how PT. X adjusted the balance between these two logics across periods of stability, disruption, response, and recovery during 2020–2024. A longitudinal theory-elaborating single-case design was applied to verified secondary case evidence. The analysis combined evidence classification, temporal bracketing, within-case process tracing, pattern matching, and rival-explanation assessment. The strongest disruption occurred in 2021: export realization reached only 1,200 tons against a 2,500-ton target, while DIO rose from a pre-spike average of about 45 to 75 days. The findings distinguish involuntary inventory accumulation from deliberate redundancy and show a gradual shift toward logistics coordination, tighter monitoring, DIO control, and digitalization. The study proposes a provisional Dynamic Efficiency–Redundancy Rebalancing Framework rather than a validated causal switching model.
